Unlock tax exemptions, government subsidies, and exclusive startup benefits — with expert guidance from CA Ankush Garg.

India’s Startup India initiative offers some of the most powerful benefits available to new businesses — including 3 years of complete income tax exemption, access to government tenders, fast-track patent processing, and much more. But most startups miss out because they don’t know the eligibility criteria, the correct registration process, or how to apply for specific benefits. CA Ankush Garg  guides you through every step — from DPIIT recognition to tax exemption under Section 80IAC.

What is DPIIT Recognition?

DPIIT (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) recognition is the official government certification that classifies your business as a ‘Startup’ under the Startup India programme. Without this recognition, you cannot access any of the startup benefits offered by the Government of India.
DPIIT recognition is available through the Startup India portal (startupindia.gov.in) and is completely free of cost — but the eligibility conditions and documentation must be carefully met.

Eligibility for DPIIT Recognition

Key Benefits of DPIIT Recognition

1. Income tax exemption — Section 80IAC

This is the most significant startup benefit. Under Section 80IAC, a DPIIT-recognized startup incorporated between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2025 can claim a 100% deduction on profits for 3 consecutive years out of the first 10 years. This effectively means zero income tax for 3 years.

Condition Approved by the Inter-Ministerial Board (IMB) — CA Ankush Garg  prepares and files the complete 80IAC application on your behalf.

2. Angel tax exemption — Section 56(2)(viib)

DPIIT-recognized startups are exempt from the ‘angel tax’ — the tax on the premium received on share issuance above fair market value. This is critical for startups raising funding from angel investors.

3. Self-certification under labour & environmental laws

Startups can self-certify compliance under 6 labour laws and 3 environmental laws for 3–5 years from incorporation — reducing the burden of inspections and regulatory scrutiny.

4. Fast-track patent processing & fee concession

DPIIT-recognized startups get an 80% rebate on patent filing fees and fast-track examination — reducing years of wait to months.

5. Government tender eligibility

Startups recognized by DPIIT are exempt from the ‘prior experience’ and ‘prior turnover’ requirements in government tenders — opening up significant business opportunities.

6. Easy winding up

DPIIT-recognized startups can wind up operations within 90 days under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code — compared to years for regular companies.

7. State-level startup benefits

Punjab and Haryana offer additional startup benefits to DPIIT-recognized entities — including subsidies, incubation support, and seed funding. We identify and apply for all relevant state schemes on your behalf.
